ITS A MOOD debuts with "Curvas" a furniture collection where emotion meets materiality

ITS A MOOD in CC Magazine

Interview & Feature

CC Magazine explores the creative world of Maria Massaad, founder of ITS A MOOD, through Curvas, the studio’s debut collection. The conversation reflects on the relationship between emotion, form and material, tracing the influence of her Lebanese heritage, Barcelona’s architecture and an instinctive approach to design.

Through eleven sculptural pieces, the collection brings together traditional craftsmanship and contemporary processes, exploring how objects can shape not only the spaces we inhabit, but also the way we experience them.

The feature offers a closer look at the creative process behind the collection, from the initial concept to the exploration of curves, proportions and textures. It highlights the dialogue between artistic expression and functionality, where furniture moves beyond its conventional purpose to become part of a more personal and sensory experience.

At the centre of the conversation is a vision of design that embraces individuality, craftsmanship and the emotional connection between people and the objects that surround them.

ARCHITECTURE THAT IS FELT

It also explores the importance of material experimentation in the studio’s practice. Working primarily with wood and microcement, Massaad develops forms that balance structural precision with a sense of softness and fluidity. Each piece emerges through a process where the interaction between surface, volume and light plays an essential role in defining its character.

Curvas represents an exploration of how seemingly contrasting elements can coexist. Solid materials take on fluid silhouettes, sculptural volumes retain a sense of lightness, and functional objects become expressive elements within an interior. This interplay of contrasts reflects the studio’s interest in challenging conventional perceptions of furniture and materiality.

ITS A MOOD approaches design as an evolving creative practice, allowing intuition, experimentation and personal expression to inform each collection.

The feature presents Curvas as both an introduction to the studio’s identity and a reflection of its broader philosophy, where art, design and craftsmanship meet to create objects with a distinct presence and lasting emotional resonance.
