Inspired by the monumental geometry of ancient Roman columns, Columna explores the relationship between architecture, sculpture, and functional design. Its bold cylindrical volumes offer a contemporary, brutalist interpretation of classical architectural elements.

Behind its geometry lies an internal wooden structure. Each element is designed, constructed, carved and sculpted by hand to achieve the proportions and intersections between the different volumes. The seat rises from a central column, while two intersecting cylindrical volumes extend outward to form the armrests.

The relationship between these elements creates a play of positive and negative space, allowing the sculpture to be experienced differently from every angle. The wooden structure is gradually shaped, carved, and sanded before being finished with multiple layers of microcement. This mineral surface gives Columna its stone-like appearance while preserving subtle irregularities and traces of the handcrafting process.
